Marcelino Menéndez y Pelayo

Application from Marcelino Menéndez Pelayo for enrolment in the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts for the academic year 1871-1872, dated 27 September 1871.

Menéndez y Pelayo pursued studies in Philosophy and Letters at the University of Barcelona between 1871 and 1874, when he transferred to Valladolid. Foremost among the professors who had the greatest influence on him was Manuel Milà i Fontanals, one of the driving forces behind the Catalan Renaixença.

The academic year 1871-1872 was the first in which classes were given in the new University, although the official opening was in the course 1872-1873.
