Comparative drawing

"Comparative drawing showing the early and amended designs, Barcelona, 20 April 1867."

This drawing shows the solution Rogent initially provided for the main façade, with a flat roof and a pitched-roof clock tower (lines shown in black on the drawing) and the modification proposed in 1867 based on eliminating the horizontal finish of the central body and the construction of a merlon or triangular pediment, topped off by an impressive clock tower (lines shown in red on the drawing). Because of the exaggerated dimensions of this solution, this first modification was rejected by the San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts. Rogent then proposed the second, definitive modification (1868).
