Introduction

The Master's Degree in Advanced Nursing Clinical Practice is the consolidation of a joint project between the University School of Nursing at the UB and the Catalan Institute of Oncology. It provides both a professional specialisation and an introduction to research. The master's degree, which covers specialisations in cancer and chronic disease, aims to meet our society's current needs for specialised care in increasingly frequent health situations such as cancer and chronic diseases.
The main aim of the Master's Degree in Advanced Nursing Clinical Practice is to provide specialised training and update knowledge of cancer and chronic disease, so that students gain advanced clinical and research competences. On completion of the master's degree, nursing professionals will have learnt skills to improve current nursing care practices on the basis of scientific evidence, and to create new, specialised knowledge in nursing.

The course plan includes a compulsory core section for all students on health science research and advanced nursing clinical practice, and a section comprised of two specialisations: a cancer specialisation, which covers health problems related to this disease; and a specialisation in chronicity, which covers health problems related to chronic illnesses.

This master's degree is designed for holders of pre-EHEA diplomas and/or bachelor's degrees in nursing who demonstrate that they have the knowledge and skills to treat people in healthcare environments associated with the specialisations in the master's degree, and those who wish to gain research skills in advanced nursing clinical practice in general, and in cancer and chronic disease in particular.

Learning objectives

- To acquire specialised training and update knowledge to work in advanced nursing clinical practice in the areas of chronic diseases and cancer.
- To gain a solid, broad base of knowledge that will enable students to go on to doctoral programmes on nursing research in the aforementioned areas, and to acquire the knowledge and skills required to undertake research in the health field.
