Introduction

Disciplines such as molecular biology, medicine, veterinary science and agronomy generate a large amount of data. To make the most of omic data and advance in these disciplines, professions are required who can handle, analyse and interpret data, including experts in bioinformatics, genomics, computational biology or biocomputing.

The university master's degree in Bioinformatics and Biostatistics at the UOC and UB is particularly well-adapted to current needs. The course contents provide a balance of bioinformatics and biostatistics subjects, and enable students to develop competences in data management, artificial intelligence, modelling and statistical analysis of bioinformatics problems.

The master's degree is mainly aimed at university graduates in computer engineering, mathematics, statistics, biology, medicine, pharmacy or other degrees in engineering, sciences or health sciences who wish to specialize in this field.

Students will take compulsory subjects to gain basic knowledge of bioinformatics and biostatistics and learn how to use specialized software in the field at advanced level.

The master's degree is flexible and offers optional subjects, so that students can specialize in the aspects that are of most interest to them. The optional subjects include topics such as software for bioinformatics, trends in the bioinformatics sector, molecular and structural biology, design and analysis of experiments, survival analysis, multivariate analysis, and automatic learning (machine learning), as well as the opportunity to carry out company placements.
