The objectives of this master's degree course are to:
- offer graduates in humanities, social sciences and other related disciplines the opportunity to complete their training though the detailed study of the theory and practice of music, consolidate professional skills in this field, and develop different areas of research on music;
- develop knowledge in different fields of music, such as the various aspects of musical thought, audiovisual activity, and the management and practice of sound-related activity;
- train graduates in human sciences and humanities in specific areas of interdisciplinary musical practice, focusing on the association of music with literature and the plastic arts, and its presence in a variety of different contemporary cultural and artistic contexts;
- examine the characteristics of different schools of thought and approaches to music (including study areas such as the aesthetic idea of music as thought derived from sensibility, the sociology of music and the relationship between sound production and the society that generates and receives this production, musical
anthropology and the approach to music through cultural structures, and finally the psychology of music and the analysis of psychological factors that can generate a musical product and explain its favourable or unfavourable reception by a listener);
- analyse a series of areas including the processes by which music permeates the communication media and the specific musical creations made for this media, the varieties of media publications on music and music's social importance, the presence of music in radio and television broadcasting and in the theatre and, finally, the dynamics of music management in all these fields with regard to the student's future professional career;
- promote specific research on music in both interdisciplinary fields and cultural practice.
