Conference given by Josep Giner, lecturer from the Department of Mineralogy, Petrology and Applied Geology of the University of Barcelona.
In May 2008, the company Escal UGS received the license of exploitation for gas natural storage in Castor platform, in Amposta. In March 2007, the Spanish Government closed the installation due unfavorable reports written by experts on geomechanics, seismology and structural geology from the Massachusets Institute of Technology and Harvard University (United States).
After the earthquakes caused by Castor, a critical inspection of the project was necessary, in particular the geological aspects of the gas storage installation and the origins of the earthquakes that affected the coastal area.
