Conference series: “Las imágenes de enfermedad, muerte y duelo compartidas online”
UB lecturers Rebeca Pardo and Montse Morcate run the conference series "Las imágenes de enfermedad, muerte y duelo compartidas online". This activity tackles the photographic representation of pain and mourning, while it also focuses on new practices and numerous bonds set between the users that share these images online, creating online communities. Entrance is free, there is limited capacity.
Digital image and its ability to be shared online easily and continuously for many people has not only changed the photographic media but it also opens debate on the aspects of daily life that deserve to be photographed and shared. Images of illness, mourning and death, which were once part of a family album, and later were considered as inappropriate, are now visible and accepted in the Internet.
The conferences will analyze new practices, stories and formats that result from social networks and Internet related to illnesses, death and pain, as well as its cultural meaning. The focus will be multidisciplinary, aiming to link different researches from different fields such as visual arts, anthropology, history, sociology or medical humanities.
