Joan Solà, professor of Theoretical Physics at the Department of Structure and Constituents of Matter, has been recognized as an outstanding referee for the Physical Review and the Physical Review Letters for 2012. These two American Physical Society (APS) journals are among the top ten positions in the impact factor in their different research fields in physics.

The Outstanding Referee program was instituted in 2008 to recognize scientists who have been exceptionally helpful in assessing manuscripts for publication in the APS journals. The program annually recognizes about 150 of the roughly 60,000 currently active referees.

Selections are based on the number, quality, and timeliness of referee reports. The 149 honorees in 2012 come from 31 different countries, 3 from Spain.Together with the UB researcher Joan Solà, Lorenzo Luis Salcedo of the University of Granada and Michele Modugno of the University of the Basque Country have also been selected. In previous editions, researchers of the Faculty of Physics of the UB were also recognized as outstanding referees: Ignacio Pagonabarraga (2011), José M. Sancho (2009), M. Àngels Serrano (2009) and Marian Bogunyà (2008).

Joan Solà Peracaula (Santa Coloma de Farners, 1956) is professor of Theoretical Physics of the Department of Structure and Constituents of Matter and member of the UBʼs Institute of Cosmos Sciences. He leads the consolidated research group Theoretical High Energy Physics and his research lines are elementary particle physics and theoretical cosmology. He has published in more than 100 international journals and in about 40 books. He has also supervised more than 20 thesis and research works.
