According to the 2011 CYD Report, the UB is the highest-placed Spanish university of scientific output, with a total of 15,290 papers published between 2006 and 2010. The UB also leads the ranking of Spanish universities in terms of percentage of papers published in high impact journals, in other words, in journals included in the first quartile (25% of the most prestigious publications in their field), ranked according to the SCImago Journal Rank (SJR) quality indicator.

According to the 2011 CYD Report, the UB is the highest-placed Spanish university of scientific output, with a total of 15,290 papers published between 2006 and 2010. The UB also leads the ranking of Spanish universities in terms of percentage of papers published in high impact journals, in other words, in journals included in the first quartile (25% of the most prestigious publications in their field), ranked according to the SCImago Journal Rank (SJR) quality indicator.

In the ranking of scientific areas, the UB gets very good positions for its output in Immunology and Microbiology, and in Earth and Planetary Sciences; in Psychology, regarding visibility, and in Mathematics and Psychology when publications in journals of the first quartile are taken into account. Concerning the research institutions, two UB-affiliated institutes —IDIBELL and IDIBAPS—, are among the top ten of the ranking regarding the normalized impact of the scientific publications for the period 2006-2010: they rank fifth and ninth, respectively. In the international context, the UB ranks 161 in number of publications, following Princeton University, in the United States.

The 2011 CYD Report, drawn up by the Knowledge and Development Foundation (CYD), is made from bibliometric records included in the Scopus database (property of Elsevier B. V., the first global publisher of scientific journals). Scopus database doubles the number of indexed journals with respect to the Thomson Reuters web of science, which ensures more thematic and geographic coverage.
