Jesús M. de Miguel, Professor from the Department of Sociology and Organizational Analysis at the University of Barcelona (UB), directs from the 3rd to the 9th of September at Harvard University the fifth Summer Seminar on Sociological and Political Research. The goal of the seminar is to expose a small group of lecturers, postgraduates and researchers from various regions in Spain to the latest theoretical, methodological and research developments in Social Sciences in the United States.

Jesús M. de Miguel, Professor from the Department of Sociology and Organizational Analysis at the University of Barcelona (UB), directs from the 3rd to the 9th of September at Harvard University the fifth Summer Seminar on Sociological and Political Research. The goal of the seminar is to expose a small group of lecturers, postgraduates and researchers from various regions in Spain to the latest theoretical, methodological and research developments in Social Sciences in the United States.

The talks will be given by professors mostly from Harvard University, such as Arachu Castro, Peter Hall or Michèle Lamont; from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Roberto Fernández, and from UC Berkeley, Stanley Brandes. This yearʼs edition also includes a debate with the researcher Patricia Craig on the next presidential elections in the United States, and the inaugural talk, entitled “New Trends in Social Research”, will be given by lecturer from MIT Emilio J. Castilla. Among the lecturers who took part in previous seminars are Stanley Brandes, expert in comparative cultural studies and methodology; Frank Dobbin, in organizations and economic behaviour; Roberto Fernández, social networks; Mauro F. Guillén, comparative sociology and organizations; Peter Hall, political science and policymaking; Ruth Horowitz, qualitative methodology; Michèle Lamont, sociology of culture; Pippa Norris, comparative politics; Sidney Verba, political culture, and Mary Waters, demography and migration.

 
This seminar is fully supported by the Centre for Sociological Research (CIS), through the Spanish Ministry of the Presidency, and this yearʼs seminar will be attended by around thirty Spanish researchers. The seminar is directed by Professor De Miguel and coordinated by the lecturer from the MIT Emilio J. Castilla, who holds a Bachelorʼs degree from the UB and who has recently been awarded the prize in Social Sciences Premio Fundación Banco Herrero.
