The rector of the University of Barcelona, Dídac Ramírez, and Ferran Adrià, sponsor of El Bulli Foundation and doctor honoris causa by the UB, signed a collaboration agreement within the project Bullipedia, a pioneering initiative all over the world which aims to be a reference in the information and documentation about nutrition and gastronomy.

It is a proposal linking synergies between two entities with common interests in the dissemination of knowledge, which will add the culinary information generated in El Bulli, fruit of the creativity, to the University academic knowledge, in order to become a documentary reference in this field.

The agreeement includes the UB commitment to make the academic and scientific monitoring of the initiative through the creation of UB-Bullipedia, composed by UB staff and some representatives of  El Bulli Foundation. The UB-Bullipedia will be located in the Masía building in the Food and Nutrition Torribera Campus, in Santa Coloma de Gramenet.

The Bullipedia is a strategic international project of El Bulli Foundation which will create a digital document collection that will include all the culinary knowledge generated by El Bulli and the results of the incorporation of new creative products coming from the international cuisine. Moreover, Bullipedia is a debate space to share ideas about the creative function in cuisine, bearing in mind the importance of human nutrition, dietetics and food security.

The UB will provide the coordinator of the Team in charge of the Contents and Management, as well as an area to locate the UB-Bullipedia and the support of the campus administrative staff, necessary to develop the project. The academic team will have some experts who will collaborate in the project.

Initially, the agreement is signed for three years aiming to become an international reference of the current international and Catalan cuisine science.

Food and Nutrition Torribera campus

The Food and Nutrition Torribera campus answers the wish to make visible the University potential in the food and nutrition field and it is affiliated with the health campus of the UB, the HUBc.

In 2012-2013 academic year, the campus hosts 600 students, lecturers and researchers located in more than 12000 m2 of services, areas, laboratories, offices, etc. Affiliated with the UB Faculty of Pharmacy, Torribera campus offers two degrees: one in Human Nutrition and Dietetics and another in Food Science and Technology. The Food and Nutrition Torribera Campus is also important for research, it has the great experience of several UB groups linked to the Institute for Research on Nutrition and Food Safety (INSA-UB).

Torribera has also an important social influence. Two examples of this influence are: the Premio UB- Ferran Adrià con Gallina Blanca, which awards the best upper secondary research works in the field of food science; and the annual celebration ExpAliments, that will take place on 17th November and offers activities for all ages.
