This is the third consecutive year that the UB participates in the 48h Open House Barcelona, the architecture festival of Barcelona that the cultural organization Arquitectura Reversible fosters.

The festival celebrates this year its third occasion. It gives citizens the opportunity of knowing and living architecture in a special way —the closest and farthest heritage, the private and the public one— in order to have a different sight of the city. On the weekend of the 27 and 28 October, this cultural event will freely open the doors of 150 buildings located in all Barcelonaʼs neighborhoods. A great number of these buildings could be visited together with their architects, users and planners, who will give details about these places.

The UB participates in this initiative and opens three emblematic places: the Historic Building, the Güell Pavilions and the Pavelló de la República. In the Historic Building (Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, 585) some guided tours will be performed on Saturday 27th in the morning, every hour, from 11 a.m. to 15 p.m. In the Güell Pavilions (Pedralbes avenue, 15) some guide tours have also been organized on Saturday 27th, every hour, from 10.15 a.m. to 14.15 p.m. Finally, on Sunday 28th the Pavelló de la República (Cardenal Vidal i Barraquer avenue, 34-36) could be visited form 11 a.m. to 18 p.m.

48h Open House BCN, the main cityʼs date with architecture

The Open House Project was born in London in 1992, and since then it has expanded to other cities which are paradigmatic of architecture and design. Nowadays, it takes place in twenty-one international cities: New York. Helsinki, Rome or Melbourne, can be highlighted. The festival arrived to Barcelona in 2010 thanks to the cultural organization Arquitectura Reversible.

In the 2010 and 2011 occasions 25000 and 35000 people participated, respectively. This third occasion strengthens this initiative whose main objective is to bring closer and disseminate the excellence of Barcelonaʼs good architecture, urban development and design among citizens and in a global scale.
