Chemistry International, the newsmagazine of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), the organisation that gathers all national chemical societies and that has long been recognised as the world authority in developing standards for the naming of the chemical elements and compounds, publishes in the front cover of its latest issue the work by the artist Eugènia Balcells Homage to the Elements, installed as a permanent exhibit in the Physics and Chemistry Library, affiliated to the CRAI of the UB.
The artist designed this version of the periodic table showing the emission spectra of each element to mark the celebration of the International Year of Chemistry (2011). The piece was conceived as a complement to the video-installation Freqüències and brings together in one image two icons of physics and chemistry: emission spectra and the periodic table.
