To promote training, research and collaboration between physicians and pharmacists in the proper use of medicines is the main objective of the agreement signed between the University of Barcelona and the Spanish Society of Nephrology (SEN).

The agreement defines the collaboration set up between the Teaching Coordination Unit of Guided Practicals of the Faculty of Pharmacy and SEN. It will contribute to optimize the use of teaching and research resources in order to develop training activities that guarantee the proper use of medicines.

On 10 February, the dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Dr Joan Esteva de Sagrera, the president of SEN, Dr Alberto Martínez Castelao, and university lecturers Marian March and Mª Angels Vía met to present the first action of the collaborative programme: to agree a guide to use those primary care medicines that require particular surveillance as they are dispensed by community pharmacies to treat chronic and polymedicated patients with renal failure. Considering population ageing and polymedication, an increasing need of this pharmacy service to improve patientʼs health is forecast.
