Programme of the Meeting of UB Science Communicators

The 3rd Meeting of UB Science communicators will be opened by the vice-rector for Science Policy, Dr Enric I. Canela, who welcomes participants. Then, Marga Becerra, the person in charge of the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit (UCC+i) of UB, presents the new image of La UB Divulga and its new website. After that, Xavier Luri, professor from the Department of Astronomy and Metereology, describes the work developed within the Science Communication Management Plan of the University.

Later, some science dissemination projects of UB are exposed. For example: Eduard Masana (Department of Astronomy and Meteorology) describes Cuentaluces, a citizen science project to measure light pollution, and Jordi Díaz (Science and Technology Centres) presents a nanotechnology project addressed to secondary education students. Furthermore, the Research Group on Academic and Professional Discourse of the Faculty of Philology exposes its dissemination activities. Then, Ramon M. Masalles (Department of Plant Biology) describes a botanic trail of the Fabra Observatory, and Jordi Ojeda (Department of Economics and Business Organization) speaks about the project Comic, Science and Technology. Finally, Pere Castells and Marta Vila, from UB-Bullipedia, expose a science teaching plan based on cooking.

Then, Elisenda Rius, director of Institutional Activities and Protocol at UB, explains UBʼs sponsorship and collaboration possibilities with other institutions.

After lunch, Ignasi Arribas, from the TV programme Quèquicom, describes the main characteristics of a science communication video and gives some examples. His speech gives place to one of the workshops that take place in the afternoon: “Com es grava una peça divulgativa davant de la càmera?” (How must be recorded a science dissemination video?). Participants must create something similar to a dictionary of basic scientific notions by means of short videos. Participants must work on a definition of a basic concept of his/her area of expertise and explain it in front of the camera considering the guidelines given previously.

On the other workshop, the UCC+i describes the project submitted to the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) that plans to organise the Science Festival at UB. Participants, in small groups, must plan how they will prepare this activity. In the case that the festival could not be carried out due to budget cuts, proposals will be used to organise next yearʼs edition of Espai Ciència.

The 3rd Meeting of UB Science Communicators is supported by FECYT and the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness.
