A delegation of the University of Barcelona (UB), headed by the Rector Dídac Ramírez, met the Moroccan Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Lahcen Daoudi, in order to strengthen the collaboration between Moroccan universities and the University of Barcelona (UB).

Meeting participants agreed that the UB is going to become Moroccoʼs gateway to the European Union in the field of higher education. The University of Barcelona is member of prestigious networks like the League of European Research Universities (LERU), an association of twenty-one leading research-intensive universities; the European University Association (EUA), the most important university association in Europe, and the Arab-Euro Conference on Higher Education (AECHE), whose Secretariat is headquartered at the UB.

In fact, Morocco plays an important role in AECHE: it is crucial to develop the initiative in Arab countries.

The UB has ten collaboration agreements with six Moroccan universities: Mohammed V University - Souissi, University Soultan Moulay Slimane in Beni Mellal, Mohammed V University - Agdal Rabat, University of Moulay-Ismaïl, Universitat Méditerranéenne sans Mur and University Hassan II - Aïn Chock.

The Rector was accompanied by the vice-rector for International Policy, Maria Callejón, and the vice-rector for Academic Policy and Quality, Gaspar Roselló. The Moroccan delegation was composed by Abdelhafid Debbarh, secretary general of the Ministry of Higher Education; Bachir Kouhlani, director of Cooperation and Partnership; Wail Benjelloun, president of the Mohammed V University - Agdal Rabat; Houdaifa Ameziane, president of Abdelmalek Essaâdi University; Noureddine Mouaddib, president of the Rabat International University; and Omar Halli, president of Ibn Zohr University.
