The research carried out at the University of Barcelona (UB) and the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) fills again the unique building of La Pedrera on the ninth edition of the series of experimental workshops Do Research!, an initiative fostered by the Barcelona Science Park (PCB), together with the Fundació Catalunya - La Pedrera, which aims at bringing research close to all citizens and to promote scientific vocations among young minds.

Do Research! takes place in November, every Saturday morning. It gathers different research teams who move part of their laboratory to this iconic space to encourage interaction with the public and to give them the opportunity to participate in their experiments, using the same tools and materials they commonly use in their regular lab setting.

The ninth edition includes the following four different workshops: “Analyse DNA and investigate the possible author of a crime!”, conducted by experts Montsant Jornet, Jonathan Matalonga, Sara Cano and Josep Maria Carbó (UB - IRB Barcelona); “Work with cells and genes!”, carried out by the research group composed by Ignacio Castrillón, Alba Sabaté and Montserrat Romero (IRB Barcelona); “Finding a target for treatment of atherosclerosis”, conducted by UB researchers Maria Angulo, Arturo Rodríguez and Paula Martínez, and “How are drugs produced?”, run by Pol Arranz, Sonia Ciudad and Josep Garcia (IRB Barcelona).

Do Research! is included in the Area of Knowledge of the Fundació Catalunya-La Pedrera and the science outreach program "Research in Society", sponsored by the Barcelona Science Park, which offers more than 120 activities involving around 4,500 people each year. These workshops are carried out with the support of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) - Ministry of Economy and Finance (MINECO) and the Barcelona City Council.
