Dr Joan Esteva de Sagrera, dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the UB, was appointed full member of the Royal Academy of Pharmacy of Catalonia (RAFC) on a ceremony that took place on 17 November at the headquarters of the Academy. Dr Joan Esteva de Sagrera pronounced the lecture “Farmàcia: professió farmacèutica i mite”. He was answered by Dr Anna M. Carmona, professor from the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Technology of the UB and president of the Catalan Institute of Medicine and Pharmacy. The ceremony was also attended by Dr Josep M. Ventura and Dr Jaume Casas, president and secretary, respectively, of the RAFC; the vice-rector for Institutional Relations and Culture, Dr Lourders Cirlot; the vice-rector for Students and Language Policy, Dr Gemma Fonrodona, and the president of the Catalan Council of Pharmaceutical Colleges, Dr Jordi Dalmases.

Esteva de Sagrera has been the dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy since October 2009. Previously, he was the Facultyʼs secretary and the director of the former Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Technology. Joan Esteva de Sagrera is expert on non-experimental areas of the bachelorʼs degree in Pharmacy (history of pharmacy and medicine, pharmaceutical legislation, deontology and bioethics). He obtained his PhD in Pharmacy from the UB with a thesis on Ramon Llull and Arnau de Vilanova. Moreover, he is particularly interested in the relation between pharmacy and the world of art and literature.

Furthermore, Esteva de Sagrera, who was re-elected dean of the Faculty for the period 2013-2017, is the director of the Catalan Pharmacy Museum, founded in 1957 and headquartered at the Faculty. The museum has a historical collection of over two thousand exhibits and special collections of antique pharmacy advertising and informative posters.
