To bring society closer to archaeological heritage

The main objectives of the seminar organised by the GAPP, the research group led by Dr Margarita Díaz Andreu, ICREA research professor in the Department of Prehistory, Ancient History and Archeology of the UB, are to provide new research lines on public heritage as well as to bring attendants closer to the latest studies on this field developed at the national level.

The programme is divided into three sessions: Social inclusion in cultural policies: sustainability and participation; Participative cultural tourism and new technologies, and The role of public archaeology as a system of citizen participation. Lectures analyse aspects such as the role of archaeology in cultural integration and citizen interaction. Moreover, the seminar deals with heritage and archaeological sites as elements to promote tourism and tools to encourage social participation.

Water and cities throughout the history

The second edition of the Workshop on Water Archaeology is coordinated by Dr Miquel Salgot, professor in the Faculty of Pharmacy, and Dr Rocio Da Riva, professor in the Faculty of Geography and History. This year, the workshop is centred on the relationship between water and cities from several points of view. Lectures analyse aspects such as the relationship between water and public health, water-related jobs in cities throughout the history, or water management in the Bronze and the Iron ages. The workshop also includes a speech with a philosophical approach that describes the role of water as a limit and the way to the ultra-world. It is co-organised by the Royal Academy of Pharmacy of Catalonia, the Association for the Defence of Water Quality and the Spanish Association of Water Supply and Sanitation.
