Courses on every subject area

Els Juliols are multidisciplinary courses given by university lecturers and professionals, from the public and the private sector, who provide different but also complementary views about analysed questions. They are 20-hour courses which take place during one week in morning or afternoon sessions.

Course topics are grouped into four main blocks: Arts and humanities, Social Sciences, Resources and Strategies, and Natural and Health Sciences Among this year's courses, we highlight: "Deu conceptes per repensar el món dʼavui", which offers a reflection on present society strongly affected by economic and social crisis as well as by a crisis of values;  "Gamification i serious games: crear una experiència memorable a partir de les lleis del disseny de jocs"is an introduction to videogames and their design, from an innovative methodology; "La medicina i la ciència en la literatura i les sèries de televisió" analyses the role played by popular TV-series and novels in disseminating scientific and medical knowledge; "Llegir i escriure en temps dʼInternet. Nous reptes de la comunicació en lʼentorn digital" helps to learn the rules used in screenwriting; "El cinema de ciència-ficció vist des del Festival de Sitges" reflects on science and its consequences by means of a film genre and an international film festival with a long history in Catalonia; "La mentira: versión oficial"dismantles the official system and shows the manipulation strategies used to delude people; "La nova política" analyses and reflects on new ways of implementing policies that have appeared in our society in a moment when some alternatives are gathering forces and showing that things can be done in other way; "Saps més del que et penses. Com activar i fer valer les teves capacitats"helps to take profit of own competences and abilities, and "Trafiquem amb el cos humà? Reflexions des de la bioètica" analyses in deep people smuggling and organ trade.

Most Els Juliols courses take place in the Historic Building of the University of Barcelona. Moreover, in order to extend the programme far beyond the UB, some courses take place in other towns: Alella, Badalona, LʼHospitalet de Llobregat, Sant Joan Despí, Terrassa, Vilafranca del Penedès, and particularly Cornellà del Llobregat, which hosts the four courses included in the 8th edition of the Universitat dʼEstiu de les Dones (Women's Summer University).
