The University of Barcelona (UB) is the top Spanish higher education institution in the number of projects and amount of funding obtained from the 2014 National Research, Development and Innovation Plan. Thanks to this call of the Spanish Ministry of Economics and Competitiveness, the UB will receive 10,266,300 euros to develop a total of 107 research projects in different subject areas.

The University of Barcelona (UB) is the top Spanish higher education institution in the number of projects and amount of funding obtained from the 2014 National Research, Development and Innovation Plan. Thanks to this call of the Spanish Ministry of Economics and Competitiveness, the UB will receive 10,266,300 euros to develop a total of 107 research projects in different subject areas.

Among them, fifty-nine UB projects are included in the National Programme for Fostering Excellence in Scientific and Technical Research, and forty-nine are part of the National Programme for Research Aimed at the Challenges of Society. The University of Granada is the second Spanish university in the number of projects funded (96), divided between the programme for fostering excellence (59) and the programme for research aimed at the challenges (37).

UB projects funded by the National Research, Development and Innovation Plan are centred on the fields of Energy (1); Agrifood Resources and Technologies (2); Astronomy and Astrophysics (3); Fundamental Biology (5); Biotechnology (2); Biodiversity, Sciences and Global Change (12); Social Sciences (7); Environmental Sciences and Technologies (1); Chemical Sciences and Technologies (9); Law (7); Economics (3); Education Science (2); Feminism, Women and Gender (2); Philology and Philosophy (11); Physics (3); Particle Physics (2); History and Art (9); Materials (3); Mathematics (3); Psychology (5); Biomedicine (13), and Communication and Electronic Technologies (2).

The UB also holds a leading position in the number of projects on Astronomy and Astrophysics (3); Biodiversity, Sciences and Global Change (12); Social Sciences (7); Feminism, Women and Gender (2), and Biomedicine (13). Moreover, the UB is also one of the institutions with the highest number of projects in the fields of Fundamental Biology (5) and History and Art (9).
