Carles Escera, professor of Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Barcelona, has been appointed member of the Academy of Europe, in the section of behavioural sciences. Membership is by invitation only and follows a rigorous peer review selection process. Carles Escera, professor of Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Barcelona, has been appointed member of the Academy of Europe, in the section of behavioural sciences. Membership is by invitation only and follows a rigorous peer review selection process. Absolutely grateful for the recognition, Escera emphasizes that "it is an honour to be appointed member of such a prestigious institution that gathers renowned experts".

The Academy of Europe was founded as an international non-governmental association in 1988. It is composed by scientists and academics who seek to promote training, education and research. It gathers more than three thousand members from all disciplines: physics and technology, biology, medicine, arts, humanities, social sciences, economics, law, etc.

Professor Escera leads the Institute for Brain, Cognition and Research (IR3C) and the Brainlab-Cognitive Neuroscience Research Group of the University of Barcelona. His research is focused on understanding the cerebral mechanisms of hearing. His studies are centred on recording brain waves by means of electroencephalography techniques to study brain response to stimuli and brain synchronization. He has been visiting lecturer at the universities of Helsinki (Finland) and Bremen (Germany). He has published about one hundred papers in high impact journals and given lectures and seminars at universities worldwide, for example in Finland, Germany, United Kingdom, Singapore, Poland, Switzerland and Japan.
