Barcelonaʼs meeting pays special attention to refugee crisis. Besides being attended by a great number of Nobel Peace Laureates, the summit gathers representatives of non-governmental organizations and foundations that work for peace promotion. Summitʼs sessions take place at the Palau de Congressos de Montjuïc at the weekend.

The first World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates took place in 1999 in Rome; it was organised by the Gorbachev Foundation. Since then, the summit has been held by a different city every year, although executive committee headquarters are in Roma and Moscow. Its main goals are to exchange opinions and promote international peace campaigns, and to develop concrete proposals to tackle the planetʼs emergencies for a world free from violence.
