On behalf of the entire university community, the University of Barcelona wishes to express its shock and pain at Fridayʼs tragic events in the French capital, which have left more than 120 people dead and 200 injured, at least 80 of whom remain in critical condition. The University condemns in the strongest terms the barbarity of the attacks and shares in the grief of the families and friends of those who died - particularly those with links to Franceʼs universities and research institutions, with which it has a long tradition of friendship and collaboration - and in the suffering of the nation as a whole.

The basic principles of peaceful coexistence and mutual respect, and the fundamental freedoms of democratic society, must not be jeopardized by atrocities such as those perpetrated in Paris.

The University of Barcelona has called for public condemnation of these cruellest of attacks, and has invited members of the university community to join together at 12.00 midday on Monday 16 November, at the entrances to each faculty in the History Building, in a show of condolence, solidarity and re-membrance.
