After last yearʼs success, LA UB Divulga organizes the 2nd UB Science Festival, which has the dual aim of bringing people closer to research, innovation and knowledge -in a playful and fun way- and making some research studies -carried out currently in the University of Barcelona- accessible to the general public.

The festival will take place next Friday April 29, from 10h to 19h, in the Historic building, and there will be a lot of science-related activities, such as researchersʼ presentations, games and workshops. The visitors will see a fossil archaeological site and will be able to make a Iuris test; joining in a literary workshop on history novel and participating in a physic particles activity; entering the robotics world, nanotechnology and virtual reality, and watching the show Flobotín, un mosquit del cretaci (from Pintaʼm un conte (paint me a tale) project).

In addition, in order to promote a more participative visit, there will be a gymkhana which will allow participants to enjoy the experimental exhibitions organized in a very participative way.

From particle physics to literary creation, through legal culture and neuroscience

In this second edition of the Festival the number of activities has increased a lot and these activities are spread in all knowledge fields.
Several workshops covering different themes such as the chemical periodic table, mother cells, visual perceptions, chemistry and colour, virtual reality, diverse types of soils, brainʼs characteristics and literary creation- will be at the participantsʼ reach.

In addition, there will be presentations for Apps created by researchers of the University of Barcelona such as Riu.net (from the Research group FEM), Floodup (from the Research Group GAMA) and BCNRocks (from the Faculty of Geology).

Likewise, there will be a corner for childrenʼs lecture and a stand with microscopes and magnifying glasses; there will be a session for the show Flobotín, un mosquit del Cretaci (from Pintaʼm un conte project) at 18 h, and people will be able to see a fossil archaeological site and watch the sun through a telescope, among others.

A scientific gymkhana

The Gymkhana UB is aimed at 3-5pers groups, who have to be over 6 years old. Groups with children aged under 12 will need the presence of an adult. There will be two turns, morning and afternoon. The morning schedule is 10-14h and the afternoon one, 16-19h. In the morning, participants have to collect the test voucher which will be given by the organization before 11h, and in the afternoon it will be given before 17h. The stand where all the documents have to be handed in will be located in Pati de Ciències in the same building (the closest one is in Carrer de Balmes). At 13.30h and 18.30h both turns will be closed, and winners will be announced, according to the amount of time the participants have spent on completing the tasks on the portfolio given by the organization at the start of the gymkhana. The activity is free and registration can be filled in via this form.

The Scientific Culture and Innovation Area (UCC+i) of the UB is the organizer of the event, which is funded by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology of the Economy and Competence Ministry and Obra Social La Caixa Foundation, with the support from SABA.

Detailed information about each activity can be read in the festivalʼs website
