AECHE is a joint action of AARU and EUA, promoted by the University of Barcelona, which takes the permanent Secretary. AECHE is an association seeking to promote dialogue, mutual understanding, knowledge exchange and a greater cooperation among Arabic and European universities. The first AECHE conference took place in the University of Barcelona in 2013 and the second one in Amman (Jordan) in 2014.

AECHEʼs third conference, in the organization of which Union for the Mediterranian takes part in too, will dedicate their work to debate on the way to strengthen the role of universities as entities contributing to international and interregional dialogue, and debate also on how much they can participate in conflict solving. One of the sessions will be dedicated to the universitiesʼ contribution in the challenging integration of refugees and its implications for the institutions that do so.

Other topics of the session are the identification and funding instruments implementation for effective internationalization strategies; what abilities the university students should acquire to face new challenges born from the transformation and crisis which affect the two regions -Europe and the Arabic countries-, and how the universities contribute to the social development and society education. There will also be a session on dialogue perspectives regarding upper education between the European Union and the Arabic world. Likewise, there will be a space to show examples of good cooperative practicals between Arabic and European universities, as well as promoting bilateral relations among the different participating universities of the meeting, and signing collaboration agreements.
