The pharmaceutical company Esteve and the Barcelona Science Park (PCB) have decided to strengthen their collaboration in the field of discovery of new molecular compounds with analgesic properties through the creation of the Joint Unit ESTEVE-PCB. This Unit will be placed in PCB, in the Barcelona Knowledge campus of the University of Barcelona, and it involves promoting synergies in the field of chronic pain, a medical need which is not covered by the current available therapies.

The aim of the projects framed in the Joint Unit is to design and synthetize new compounds aimed at innovative therapy targets with the newest available tools in both centres to discover and -afterwards- develop efficient treatments for several chronic pain cases. This research line constitutes a priority for both entities and also for the health system according to the Health Plan of Catalonia, the Interest Group on the Brain, Mind and Pain of the European Parliament and patient organizations members of the Pain Alliance Europe (PAE).
