The lecturer of The Faculty of Library and Information Science, Lluís Agustí, is the coordinator of the  Prohibited Culture Week, which will take place in  El Born Culture and Memory Centre, from May 24 to May 29, aiming to reflect on several prohibition and censorship models applied to cultural and artistic fields.


Lluís Agustí is the Director of the School of Library of The Faculty of Library and Information Science of the University of Barcelona and teacher of Collection Development and Resources, and Reference Services. He also teaches in the program of Libraries and Archive in Era Digital of the University of Experience of the UB, giving the courses Social Network and Information Searching via Internet and Libraries: knowledge and uses.

Lluís Agustí is the Director of the School of Library of The Faculty of Library and Information Science of the University of Barcelona and teacher of Collection Development and Resources, and Reference Services. He also teaches in the program of Libraries and Archive in Era Digital of the University of Experience of the UB, giving the courses Social Network and Information Searching via Internet and Libraries: knowledge and uses.

 

Conferences, exhibitions, workshops and visits to cultural institutes


In the Prohibited Culture Week there are books, libraries, journalism, music and cinema. There will be concerts, documentaries will be screened and there will also be two visits  to facilities which are not open to the public, in the Library of Catalonia, where the attendants will be able to discover prohibited and censored works kept by the library.  
The week will start with a current evaluation of censorship by Gabriella Coleman, author of the book Las mil caras de Anonymous. Hackers, informers, spies and jokers (ARPA Editors), anthropologist and expert in hackers and digital activism, who will give a conference. Later on there will be a roundtable on tense cultures: freedom in a global world, which aims to revise where from and why we find situations in which culture is damaged by political, moral or religious power.


On Thursday 26, there will be a session called Nihil obstat (a Latin expression meaning "there is no stopping from it being printed"), organized by the Library Services, with the support from the Consulate General of the United States in Barcelona, with the participation of: Valerie Nye, Director of the library of the Institute of American Indian Arts of Santa Fe (New Mexico) and expert in censorship in the North American libraries; Martine Poulain, librarian, sociologist, ex-director of the library of the Institut National d'Historie de l'Art and expert in social history of the French libraries; and Carme Fenoll, Head of the Library Services of the Department of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya (Catalan Government).


On Friday there will be the roundtable: La cançó perseguida: silenciar la multitud, with the participation of Ramon Muntaner, singer-songwriter and general Director of SGAE Catalonia; Joaquim Vilarnau, journalist, author of the book  Trencant el silenci; Maria Salicrús-Maltas, historian and ethnomusicologist, and Lluís Gendrau, Director of the magazine Enderrock (editor).  


On Saturday and Sunday 29 there will also be the Prohibited Book Market, where there will be the "Dialogues on censorship". Lluís Agustí takes part in the dialogue "Escriure i prohibir" on Sunday 29, at 18 h, together with the journalist and writer Josep M. Cuenca.
