The third edition for the Arab-Euro conference on Higher Education (AECHE), which ended today, has strengthened the dialogue of higher education between the Arab and European countries, apart from spreading it into other regions with which there are also conflicts in common, such as Latin America. In AECHEʼs closing ceremony, the 4th edition of the conferences has been announced to be held in April 2017 in the Mohammed V University of Rabat, and the main focus to be analysed will be cooperation in research of strategy areas.

With 200 attendants, this edition has focused on the topic of the societal mission of the universities, including the refugeesʼ integration and conflict resolution. Other topics that have been touched on have been identification and implementation of supporting tools for effective internationalization strategies; skills the students would need in order to face new challenges provoked by transformation and crisis affecting both areas -Europe and Arab countries-, and how universities are contributing to the social development and society education.

Likewise, one of the conferences has been focused on dialogue perspectives about higher education between the European Union and the Arab world. Moreover, there was a space to present examples of good cooperation practicals among the Arab and European conferences, as well as promoting bilateral relations among the different universities participating in the meeting and signing collaboration agreements.

AECHE is an AARU and EUA joint framework promoted by the University of Barcelona, which holds the permanent Secretary. It is an association to promote dialogue, mutual understanding, knowledge exchange and a greater cooperation between Arab and European universities. The first AECHE conference took place in the University of Barcelona, in 2013, and the second one in Amman (Jordan) in 2014.
