Robert Peterson, defender of an inclusive education model based on social justice, gives a conference at the University

On Monday June 2, at 18 h, Robert Peterson will give the conference “Repensar y transformar la escuela con la gente” (Rethinking and transforming school with people), at the Aula Magna of the Historical Building of the University of Barcelona.  Over the course of his career, Peter has worked with different collectives and groups organized to promote an inclusive education based on community, democracy and social justice. His speech will offer elements to reconsider the concepts of a curricular knowledge, teaching methodology and assessment.

On Monday June 2, at 18 h, Robert Peterson will give the conference “Repensar y transformar la escuela con la gente” (Rethinking and transforming school with people), at the Aula Magna of the Historical Building of the University of Barcelona.  Over the course of his career, Peter has worked with different collectives and groups organized to promote an inclusive education based on community, democracy and social justice. His speech will offer elements to reconsider the concepts of a curricular knowledge, teaching methodology and assessment. 

Juana Maria Sancho, Professor of Teaching and Learning and Educational Organization of the Faculty of Education and member of the Esbrina group, highlights the importance of the task carried out by Peterson over the years and says he has been invited because “in a moment when there are challenges in education, we consider it necessary to listen to people with a long career on research, educational and citizenship action, who are dedicated to the improvement of public education and social justice”.


Dr. Robert Peterson is the editor of the magazine Rethinking Schools, ex-President of the Milwaukee Teachersʼ Education Association in Wisconsin (USA), has been teacher of 5th grade students in primary schools during 30 years and was the founder of La Escuela Frantey bilingual school. He has a great amount of publications, some of them in Spanish, among which there are: Rethinking Mathematics, Rethinking Globalization. Teaching for Justice in an Unjust World, and the chapter for Peterson, R. (1997). La Escuela Frantey: un viaje hacia la democracia. In M. W. Apple and J. A.
