This yearʼs poster for Els Vespres of the University of Barcelona brings six little concerts with very different styles one from the other. These concerts range from Da Souzaʼs Balearic pop rock to the Ariesʼ harmonic and psychedelic electronic music, also touching on intimate music such as Santi Caretaʼs intense author lyrics. The program includes Puputʼs dreamy pop and postrock, Staʼs energy experimental dub and Big Ok!ʼs wild rock. All concerts are free and will take place from July 5 to July 21, each Tuesday and Thursday, at the gardens of the Historical Building of the University of Barcelona (entrance at carrer Diputació-Enric Granados).

With this eleventh edition, Els Vespres have been consolidated in the agenda of Barcelona thanks to their musical selection criteria, which bets for the promotion of culture, promoting the dissemination of the most interesting new music bands. This has received a loyal and big welcome from the public, who have filled the capacity in all the concerts from the previous editions. This year the poster -designed by Sones- goes for stylish openness, experimental proposals, a wide geographical range and the presentation of recently finished projects which will be released quite soon.

Program

July 5. Da Souza
Forceful, vital and with poetic sensitiveness, this foursome from Mallorca is one of the reference emerging bands. Their songs explore the magical customs with melodies ranging from stadium rock to alternative pop and melodramatic style, with island waves present in each song. They present their second album Gran salt endavant.

July 7. Puput
Intoxicating pop melodies and wild postrock from the Catalan region of Bages. From the mystique and history and schola cantorum years which built the basis of the group, their songs invoke the past to face the future. The terrestrial breath is mixed with pop, the musical hurricane turns into boundless emotion. After a self-edited first album, Puput continues with his second work Upupa Epops.

July 12. Sta
Curious and tireless, the five members of STA gather all the vital energy in their creative and composing side; with bridles dragging from Africa and Jamaica, sifted by an own sieve that turns the songs into purely soulish material. They present their new LP Goma, an album made in the studio of Santa Coloma

July 14 de juliol. Aries
A unique electronic trip: pop full of harmony, riding rythms, lightening sounds and loop psychedelics. Aries, the alter ego of Isabel Fernández Reviriego, composes and plays songs which get close to experimentation, with a fresh and personal accent. She presents her third album Adieu or die. Ear candy.

 19 de juliol. Big Ok!
This chorale project by Paul Fuster, violinist Sara Fontán (Manos de Topo, La Orquesta del Caballo Ganador), and drummer Edi Pou (Za!, La Orquesta del Caballo Ganador), sounds like chopping flowers, apples and carrots with a lawn mower turned upside down, or thrown to a ceiling fan. Or like post hardcore by Washington mixed with a Frank Sinatra-like crooner.

21 de juliol. Santi Careta
Santi Careta introduces his voice with intimate and intense songs by himself. His lyrics bring us closer to deep and broken-hearted feelings, bathed with the balms of the passing of time. He debuts with Els Ocells and The Stereo, a project produced with lots of delicacy and magic by Joan Pons (El Petit de Cal Eril) and were distinguished friend artists also participate.

Prior to each performance, at 18 h, the audience will enjoy a terrace with a gastronomy sandwich service by Caravan Made, placed in the gardens. Els Vespres is supported by Estrella Damm and Merrell with the collaboration of Cooltura FM, which will cover the event.
