The University of Barcelona is still leading the Spanish university system and holds the 122nd position in a worldwide ranking. The new edition of the ranking by the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR), which assesses, among other aspects, the quality of education received by students, research and the teaching staff level. This ranking lists more than a thousand centers from around the world among the 25.000 existing universities. Cambridge, Oxford, Columbia, Berkeley, Chicago, Princeton and Yale occupy the first positions.

The University of Barcelona is still leading the Spanish university system and holds the 122nd position in a worldwide ranking. The new edition of the ranking by the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR), which assesses, among other aspects, the quality of education received by students, research and the teaching staff level. This ranking lists more than a thousand centers from around the world among the 25.000 existing universities. Cambridge, Oxford, Columbia, Berkeley, Chicago, Princeton and Yale occupy the first positions.

The University of Barcelona stands out regarding the publications by their researchers, influence and impact, fields in the 55, 111 and 81 positions. The second Spanish university in this ranking is the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (222), followed by the Complutense University of Madrid (224).

Regarding Europe, the best five universities are Cambridge, Oxford, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETHZ), the University College London and the Imperial College London. Regarding other countries, the United States hold the first positions, with 224 universities in the ranking. China has 90 and Japan 74. Spain is in the 8th position, with 41 universities.

The CWUR World University Rankings is the only worldwide list that analyses education quality, prestige of the centres and research quality without depending on surveys and information coming only from the universities. The eight indicators used to classify the universities are education quality, measured by the number of ex-students who were given international awards or titles (25%); ex-studentsʼ professional careers, the number of students who are now in charge of big international companies (25%); quality of the faculties, measured according to the number of academics with international awards (25%); publications (5%); research influence (5%), researchers and articles citations (5%); international impact (5%) and patents (5%).
