AQR-Lab of the UB presents a study on the economic impact of cruises in Port of Barcelona

The event was chaired by the President of the Chamber of Commerce of Barcelona, Miquel Valls, the President of the Port of Barcelona, Sixte Cambra, Doctor Esther Vayà, the Councilor of Business and Knowledge of Generalitat de Catalunya (Catalan Government), Jordi Baiget, and the Councilor of Participation and District and also Councilor of Ciutat Vella, Gala Pin.
The study was commissioned more than a year ago by the Port of Barcelona to AQR-Lab, and with the collaboration of Turisme de Barcelona, it determines that the cruise activity in Port of Barcelona generates an annual revenue of 796 million euros in Catalonia (2,2M daily) and 152 million euros of tax revenue. It also contributes to the GDP of Catalonia with 413 million euros. Researchers highlight that it brings connectivity flights to the airport of Barcelona and also economic stability in other sectors apart from benefiting several service and industrial sectors. The profile of the cruise passenger is likely to be a person who often travels with someone else, and has interest in knowing about the city and is a good prescriber (90% want to come back and recommend it to friends and acquaintances).
