The University of Barcelona holds a place among the top 250 world universities, according to the new edition of the ranking edited by the British journal The Times Higher Education (THE). The new edition of the international ranking, which includes 978 institutions from around the world, is led once more by the Anglo-Saxon world: the University of Oxford (United Kingdom), the California Institute of Technology (CalTech, USA), the universities of Stanford (USA) and Cambridge (United Kingdom) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA).

The University of Barcelona holds a place among the top 250 world universities, according to the new edition of the ranking edited by the British journal The Times Higher Education (THE). The new edition of the international ranking, which includes 978 institutions from around the world, is led once more by the Anglo-Saxon world: the University of Oxford (United Kingdom), the California Institute of Technology (CalTech, USA), the universities of Stanford (USA) and Cambridge (United Kingdom) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA).

In the edition for 2016-2017, Catalan universities are once more the ones holding best positions in Spain. According to the indicators of the ranking in The Times Higher Education, the University of Barcelona stands out for citation indicators, a field with which holds the 169 position with a score of 81,3 (international average is 48,3). In other indicators, the values of University of Barcelona are: teaching, 33,7; internationalization, 49,3; knowledge and innovation transfer, 35,3; and research, 33.

The Spanish universities holding the best positions in the international ranking are Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (163), Pompeu Fabra University (175), University of Barcelona (rank 201-250), University of Navarra (rank 301-350), Universidad Autonoma de Madrid (351-400) and Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya and Universitat Rovira i Virgili (both in the rank 401-500).

The University of Barcelona is the best university in Spain according to the prestigious QS World University Rankings 2016-2017 and the only Spanish university among the top 200 worldwide universities according to the 2016 edition of Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARAWU), known as Shanghai ranking.

Moreover, in the new edition of Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) with different fields and disciplines, the University of Barcelona is one of the top 75 world universities in Clinical Medicine and Pharmacy, and stands out for the first time as one of the top 150 university centers in Natural Sciences and Mathematics worldwide. Regarding Life and Agriculture Sciences, UB holds its position in the top 200 international universities. With Chemistry it is listed in the rank of the top 150 international universities, while regarding Physics is one of the institutions within the top 200.
