Joan Guinovart, Professor at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biomedicine, and Director of the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona), will be awarded Doctor Honoris Causa by the Andrés Bello National University (UNAB) of Chile, in a ceremony that will take place on December 1, at the honor room of the mentioned university.

Joan Guinovart, Professor at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biomedicine, and Director of the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona), will be awarded Doctor Honoris Causa by the Andrés Bello National University (UNAB) of Chile, in a ceremony that will take place on December 1, at the honor room of the mentioned university.

 

Guinovart, President of the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB) and member of CIBER Diabetes and Associated Metabolic Diseases (CIBERDEM), will receive the maximum academic distinction of UNAB for “the outstanding career in biochemistry and his contributions to research, especially regarding the alterations in diabetes and Lafora disease”.

 

With this honor distinction, the Andrés Bello National University highlights Guinovartʼs contribution to the scientific and academic development of the environment, “with the creation and direction of the prestigious IRB Barcelona”. The honorary doctorate gives recognition to “the notable efforts on the development of research groups, scientific policy in Chile and thanks him for the relationship with the Andrés Bello National University”.
