A conference by the journalist Ernesto Ekaizer opens the new master degree of the University of Barcelona on prevention against corruption and good governance

Journalist Ernesto Ekaizer will give the opening conference for the first edition of the master degree in Preventing, Controlling and Reacting to Corruption Public Compliance, Good Governance and Good Administration on November 3, at 12 h in the Saló de Graus (bachelor room) of the Faculty of Law of the UB. The event will be chaired by the Rector of the University of Barcelona, Jordi Alberch, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Institutional Relations of Generalitat de Catalunya (Catalan government), Raül Romeva, and the President of the Federació de Municipis de Catalunya (federation for the Catalan cities), Xavier Amor. There will be the participation of the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Xavier Pons, the Director of the Anti-fraud Office of Catalonia, Miguel Ángel Gimeno, and the co-directors of the master, Professor Joan Queralt and Professor Juli Ponce.

Ekaizer, a journalist with a long career in media such as La Vanguardia, Cambio, Cinco Días, El País or now in the newspaper Ara, among others, has recently published books such as Indecentes. Crónica de un atraco perfecto (2012), a work regarding the 2008Spanish economic crisis as a fraud to society by the international and national financing sector, El caso Bárcenas(2013) and Queríamos tanto a Luis (2015). He has entitled the UB conference Corrupción sistémica. El gran salto adelante.

The new UB master degree wants to train staff highly specialized in prevention, control and reaction towards corruption in the public sector and the development of techniques favouring good governance and good administration, including justice and Public Prosecution Administration, and in private and third sectors too. This master results from the capacity of research and training at the Faculty of Law of the University of Barcelona regarding transparency and good government and it coincides with the approval of a new set of laws in this field. The biennial course will start in autumn and has modules focused on the good government and administration, transparency and social control, ethics and power, public finances or controlling and responsibilities. These modules can be coursed separately, which allows getting the specific correspondent expert diploma of the University of Barcelona in each case without having studied the entire master.
 
These studies are generally aimed at people graduated in Social Sciences -especially Administration and Public Management- Law, Economics, Business, and Political and Administrative Sciences. However, it can also be interesting for students coming from other fields such as Journalism, Sociology or Human Resources, for example. Apart from being interesting to civil servants, it is also aimed at members of public and private companies, professional schools, NGOs, trade unions, political parties, associations and foundations that receive public financial support, or that have agreements with the public administration -fields in which trained professionals are needed with transparency and good government, essential to fulfil the law and guarantee good administration.
