On Monday the first session of Els Juliols took place: Taxi and apps. Challenges by TIC in the carriage of passengers. Administration intervention, disloyal competencies and collaborative economy. The course was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Xavier Pons; the Alderwoman of Mobility in the City Council of Barcelona and President of the Metropolitan Taxi Institute, Mercedes Vidal, and Coordinator and lecturer at the Faculty of Law, Marc Tarrés.

There was also the participation of Maria Teresa Carrillo, manager of the Metropolitan Taxi Institute, and Joaquim Tornos, Professor of Administration Law at the University of Barcelona. Carrillo talked about the taxi performance around the metropolitan area of Barcelona and agave reflection on the possibilities given by the apps and present and future challenges taxis have to allow with the adding of TIC in this sector, without forgetting about the main function of taxis. Among the different measures he commented on the next mandatory application of card readers and other paying systems. Professor Tornos analysed the juridical nature of the taxi, defining it as a strong regulated private activity despite not being public. He commented on the price fixation in detail and on its procedure, and made some changing proposals for the current model.
