On January 26, at the Faculty of Law of the University of Barcelona, an international conference will take place to analyze the role of world institutions such as the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), European Union or the United Nations regarding the cooperation between State fiscal authorities. Also, on Friday 27, there will be a roundtable to debate on the challenges presented at the international fiscal cooperation in the situation regarding Brexit in the United Kingdom or Donald Trumpʼs presidency in the United States.

The roundtable takes place in a moment in which the media has talked about a dramatic situation in Europe and has made public that the United Kingdom will no longer be a part of the common commercial policy and subject to the Common External Tariff, apart from publishing that the European Commission will not manage the English commercial policy. In addition, Trumpʼs recent statement saying the European Union is going towards “its dissolution” is also important, and moreover, Joseph Stiglitz, awarded with the Nobel Prize in Economics in 2001, said that “this year will go down in history as a world inflection point”.
The conference is directed by Eva Andrés Aucejo, Professor of the UB, together with Pasquale Pistone, Academic Chairman of the International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation (IBFD), and Jeffrey Owens, former president of the OECD and Director of the Global Tax Policy Center in Vienna. Some distinguished participants from international institutions are Piergiorgio Valente, president of the Fiscal Committee (Confédération Fiscale Européene); Thomas Neale, as representative of the European Commission, and Philip Baker, Professor of the University of London and Editor of British Tax Review. There will be a total of seventeen researchers from European universities.

The conference is organized on the occasion of the first year of the research project International administrative co-operation in tax matters and ADR of European perspectives (EUDISCOOP), with its main researcher being Eva Andrés Aucejo. It has the collaboration of the WU Global Tax Polici Center (Vienna), the International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation (Amsterdam), the European Fiscal Confederation (France), the Catalan delegation of the Spanish Association of Tax Advisors and the Research Institute Transjus of the University of Barcelona.
