Pere Mir, chemist and philanthropist, has died. He was the founder and president of the private foundation Cellex, an entity that supports scientific research, especially in Catalonia, and benefits scientific promotion of talents.

In 2010, the University of Barcelona signed an agreement with Cellex Foundation with which it received a donation of almost nine million euros which enabled the remodeling of the southern area of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (Casanova campus), spaces that are now the Biomedical Research Center of CELLEX.

These places, opened in 2013 where researchers of the August Pi i Sunyer Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBAPS) work, include several services of the Scientific and Technological Centers (CCiTUB) and the Cell Production Unit of the UB.
