The other great novelty of the UB for this Sant Jordi is El jardí de lʼEdifici Històric de la Universitat de Barcelona. 101 plantes per a una passejada botànica i literària, by Joan Vallès, with a selection of literary books, chosen by Montserrat Camps Gaset, and pictures by Xènia Fuentes. The book relates 101 plants of the Ferran Soldevila Garden to literature using quotes by diverse writers from a chronological, geographical, linguistic and stylistic perspective, linking the humanities world with the scientific one, while creating a dialogue between both views.

Book stand and signatures

Just like every year, on April 23, Editions and Publications of the University of Barcelona will have a book stand to show these and other novelties, apart from a wide range of books from the bibliographic base, formed by more than 2.000 works, which will be set in Rambla de Catalunya with carrer Provença, from 9 h to 20 h.

Apart from the authors of these two publications, the book stand will have the following authors signing their books: Els orígens de la indústria dietètica catalana (1880-1935) by Josep Boatella, providing knowledge on people who contributed to the development of diet products in this country from the late 19th century until the thirties; Guía ilustrada para conocer los árboles by Jaume Llistosella and Antoni Sánchez-Cuzart, a Spanish translation of the book edited in 2015 in which there are a total of 251 trees that spontaneously grow in the forests and mountains of this country, Simetries de Barcelona by Estanislau Roca, Melisa Pesoa and Miquel Àngel Cuevas, an innovative view of the city by two architects and a crystallographer, and the elements that allow us identifying details and places we sometimes do not even see; Antologia de la Literatura Llatina, edited by Javier Velaza, which gathers a selection of Latin texts from the Roman period, translated by a team of philologists of the University of Barcelona, aiming to fill a void in the Catalan language bibliography and reaching a wide and diverse audience; Visions dels Pirineus. Entre la Renaixença i el Modernisme, by Teresa-M. Sala, a personal journey with prints, drawings, pictures, literary extracts and thoughts by different poets, artists, travelers and scientists, showing an influence of the Pyrenees in this emerging period of the contemporary Catalan culture; Les profunditats de la ment. Com percebem el funcionament del nostre cervell, a work by the collective Cervell de Sis, formed by David Bueno, Enric Bufill, Francesc Colom, Diego Redolar, Xaro Sánchez, Eduard Vieta, a dissemination work sharing the activity of the brain and which allows us to understand the polyhedral and contradictory human society; De dones, homes i molècules, by Santiago Álvarez, which explains, from a heterogeneous and sometimes heterodox perspective, how chemistry is present in literature and art; Una marevella anomenada vida. Com són, com funcionem i dʼon vénen els éssers vius, by F. Mestres, M. Soley, M. I. Álvaro, B. Àrias, M. C. Auladell, N. Bonada, J. Ferrer, N. Hladun, G. Llorente, J. Martínez and M. D. Vinyoles, showing the origins, development and evolution of life on Earth; and last, Regiment de sanitat per al rei dʼAragó. Aforismes de la memòria, by Arnau Vilanova, edited by Antònia Carré, an essential piece, written in the early 14th century, within regimina sanitatis - higienicopractical guidelines for the individual or collective health-, and a great classic thanks to the advice given in order to have a healthy life (diet, exercise, sleep hours, managing feelings, etc.).
