Around four thousand students will attend the UBʼs Open Day this year
The University of Barcelona opens its doors during April to show its centers and give information on the studies offered here, occupational openings, university services and student activities, and other topics of interest. The visit of the students, most of them from high school and fewer from professional training courses, is structured with a common model, which can be different in each center, adapting the meeting according to the studies offered in the faculty and its building. In any case, however, the Dean welcomes the students, who attend the presentation of the bachelor degrees taught in the center and then visit the faculty.

For lots of high school and professional training students, the Open Day is an opportunity to see what so far has been an abstract concept of something they had heard about: the university. According to the Vice-Rector for Students and Language Policy, Alba Ambròs, “these meetings play an essential role so that students can find all the important information related to the academic offerings with an amount of details that they wonʼt find on the website. The young students see the classrooms where lectures are given, the different kinds of laboratories, the library or secretary, and since their visit is during school days, they can see the daily life of university students, lecturers and the administration and services staff (PAS)”.
A great amount of bachelor degrees offered by the University of Barcelona have around 100% of employability and one of the details given in these meetings is therefore, the different career opportunities after finishing the bachelor degrees. Depending on which degree the speech is about, they also talk about the curricular and extracurricular practical trainings. In this sense, the collaboration of the students from the different bachelor degrees in each faculty during the Open Day is very valuable”, says Ambròs.
The University of Barcelona has organized the Open Day for many years and it has always been quite successful. Actually, all the faculties offering more admissions end up having them depleted. Since the academic year 2005-2006, the amount of visitors has increased every year. For example: 2011-2012: 3.176 students; 2012-2013: 3.191; 2013-2014: 3.336; 2014-2015: 3.729; 2015-2016: 4.008.
