Elías Campo, professor from the Department of Basic Clinical Practice, took office on April 4 as new director of the August Pi i Sunyer Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBAPS). The election was made after an international open call. Campo is replacing the professor from the Department of Medicine Ramon Gomis, who had been the director of the institute since 2008.

Elías Campo, professor from the Department of Basic Clinical Practice, took office on April 4 as new director of the August Pi i Sunyer Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBAPS). The election was made after an international open call. Campo is replacing the professor from the Department of Medicine Ramon Gomis, who had been the director of the institute since 2008.

Professor Campo is the research and innovation Director of the Clinic Hospital, director of Clinic Foundation and head of the IDIBAPS team “Human and experimental functional oncomorphology”. He is currently the elected president of the European Hematology Association and member of the Governing Board of the International Cancer Genome Consortium, and also from the International Lymphoma Study Group. In 2013 he received the National Award for Research, an award given by the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation. This year he has received the Rei Jaume I Prize for medical research.
