Jesús Tuson, professor of Philology at the University of Barcelona, died at the age of 77. Tuson was a lecturer during 40 years in the University of Barcelona, where he excelled in teaching linguistics. He was actually the founder of the department of Linguistics of this institution, the first one in Spain.

Jesús Tuson, professor of Philology at the University of Barcelona, died at the age of 77. Tuson was a lecturer during 40 years in the University of Barcelona, where he excelled in teaching linguistics. He was actually the founder of the department of Linguistics of this institution, the first one in Spain.


Tuson, who retired in 2009, was the author of many manuals and essays, such as El luxe del llenguatge, Mal de llengües, Una imatge no val més que mil paraules, Això és (i no és) Allò and Quinze lliçons sobre el llenguatge (i algunes sortides de to).

Another of his work fields were the minority languages. As a communicator, he touched on subjects such as History of Linguistics, Semantics, Poetics and Theory and History of Writing.
