Ceremony in memory of Professor Jesús Tuson
On Tuesday, October 24, at 6.30 p.m., the Aula Magna of the Historical Building of the UB (Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, 585) will hold a ceremony in memory of Jesús Tuson, professor from the Faculty of Philology, who passed away last August. Chaired by the dean of the Faculty, Javier Velaza, the event will have the participation of the lecturer from the Department of Catalan Linguistics of the UB, Carme Junyent, the editor Xavier Folch, the professor of General Lingustics of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid Juan Carlos Moreno and Sebastià Serrano, professor of the UB.

Jesús Tuson (Valencia, 1939 - Barcelona, August 5, 2017) was one of the founders of the Department of General Linguistics of the UB, together with Sebastià Serrano and Eugenio Martínez Celdrán. During four decades, he taught subjects such as history of linguistics, semantics, linguistics and poetics, and theory and history of writing. He was author of several manuals on linguistics and published essay books on several aspects of language and human communication, among which are El lujo del lenguaje (1986), Mal de llengües (1988), Històries naturals de la paraula (1998), Com és que ens entenem? (1999), Una imatge no val més que mil paraules (2001), Patrimonio natural (2004), Lletres sobre lletres (2006), Això és (i no és) allò (2008), Paraules en la corda fluixa (2009) and Quinze lliçons sobre el llenguatge (i algunes sortides de to) (2011). He was a great defender of linguistic plurality.
