Researchers from the Department of Quantum Physics and Astrophysics and the Institute of Cosmos Sciences of the UB have taken part in the data analysis of a project set by the Catalan Government to evaluate the natural conditions of the night environment in the Natural Parks of Catalonia, aiming to detect the ones that keep the best conditions and to work on new protection projects.

The natural parks they took data from are the ones in Montsec, which is still in an exceptional category, and the National Park of Aiguestortes and Estany de Sant Maurici, where the quality is outstanding and exceptional in some areas. Other data comes from the Ports and Cadí-Moizeró, Cap de Creus and the park Montgrí-Illes Medes and Baix Ter. For the first time, the map on the quality of the night sky in Catalonia includes measurements in the metropolitan area of Barcelona, with a low quality and very low quality of the night sky.
