Closing conference for the project "De la Presó a la comunitat"
Last October 21, the aula capella of the Historical Building held the closing conference for the research project “De la Presó a la comunitat”, led by Antonio Andrés Pueyo, professor from the Department of Clinical Psychology and Psychobiology of the UB, and Josep Cid, lecturer from the Department of Political Sciences and Public Law at UAB.
Last October 21, the aula capella of the Historical Building held the closing conference for the research project “De la Presó a la comunitat”, led by Antonio Andrés Pueyo, professor from the Department of Clinical Psychology and Psychobiology of the UB, and Josep Cid, lecturer from the Department of Political Sciences and Public Law at UAB.
This experimental project on social reintegration of imprisoned people has been carried out between 2015 and 2017, and has involved more than three hundred former prisoners and 125 mentors. This conference wants to thank participants and mentors for their collaboration in the project and it also aims to offer a place to think on the coming back to the community after prison. TV3 journalist Fàtima Llambrich chaired the conference, which had the participation of the supervisors of the project as well as the vice-rector for Research of the UB, Domènec Espriu.
The project “De la Presó a la comunitat” has been carried out with the support from RecerCaixa program and has counted on many volunteers, members of the community, who acted as participantsʼ mentors and have been coordinated by the organizations such as Fundació Autònoma Solidària, UB Solidarity Foundation and other organizations of the Third Sector that made this project successful. The projectʼs objectives were about discovering the experience of imprisoned people returning to the community and see whether being accompanied by a non-professional mentor could improve their reintegration perspectives compared to those who come out of prison without the company of a mentor.
These mentors, who have been volunteers, have carried this task out for a year, from the end of prison sentence until the first months of coming back to the community. If the expected results are obtained, the project wants to promote the reintegration plan for everyone coming out of prison.
Once the experimental part is finished, the project starts the period for data analysis and report, which can be monitored in the website of the project.
