New bachelorʼs degree in Radiology and Radiotherapy Techniques

The main news of this year is the presentation of this new degree in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, the bachelorʼs degree in Radiology and Radiotherapy Techniques. With the technical evolution in the field of healthcare, the University of Barcelona is presenting these studies, which account for 240 ECTS, to give a proper answer to the needs of society and the level of responsibility when interacting directly in the field of public healthcare.

This degree is structured into four years. Its professional opportunities are mainly focused on the industrial and health sectors. In this sense, the studies will provide students with specific knowledge to enable them knowing about the processes, machinery and possibilities of radiology.

Radiology appeared as a specialty after discovering X rays in 1895, and is now an essential tool in the healthcare environment and technical applications in industry. The demand of radiology experts responds to needs in the health staff that have increased with the development of radiology and radiotherapy techniques and nuclear medicine, as well as treatment techniques, an important field for medical diagnoses.

More degrees and new dual pathways for the academic year 2018-2019

Apart from these degrees, the University of Barcelona is presenting new elements in two existing degrees, the degree of Cinematography in ESCAC, replacing the degree in Cinema and Audiovisual Media; and the interuniversity degree in Geological and Environmental Engineering, coordinated by the UPC, which was previously called Geological Engineering, which is now adding new content to the program.

Moreover, the next academic year comes with two dual pathways, the dual degree on Law and Industrial Relations and the one on Law and Criminology.

Saló de lʼEnsenyament, which is taking place from March 14 to 18, reaches its 29th edition as the main window of education in Catalonia, with around 80,000 visitors.

UB stand in Saló de lʼEnsenyament

This year, the stand of the University of Barcelona is placed in Pavilion 1 and  covers a 120 square meter area.

The UB stand is designed to ease the personalized service to visitors. Apart from presenting an academic offering of 75 bachelor degrees and the services for the academic year 2018-2019, it will provide visitors with information about the University. Apart from the general information given in the stand, young students can have personal advising. Around seventy members of the University will answer the visitorʼs questions. Also, like in previous editions, a representative of Barcelona Activa (Barcelona City Council) will provide students with information on occupational openings.

There will be several leaflets with information on each one of the centers in Saló de lʼEnsenyament. A total of seventeen leaflets have been edited for the different faculties, one for engineering, one for affiliated centers and a general one with all the bachelor degrees the UB offers.

Like in the three previous years, these leaflets with the educational offering have a QR code so that students can access, using their phones, a miniweb about the University of Barcelona which gathers information about the services, online resources, activities for secondary schools and scientific dissemination, among other information of interest.

Saló Futura

The University of Barcelona is also taking part in the Futura Masterʼs and Post-graduate Exhibition, to take place between March 16 and 17. The UB will show its offering for the academic year 2018-2019 for UB-specific degrees, and doctoral degrees. The complete list of master degrees of the UB is available in the website of the institution.

On Saturday 17, at 12 noon, the UB stand will offer a talk by Miquel Esteban Cortada, professor of Analytical Chemistry of the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Barcelona and coordinator of the Erasmus Mundus Master in Quality and Analytical Laboratories (EMQAL), titled “Vés més enllà. Els Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree a la Universitat de Barcelona”.

La UB Divulga in Espai Ciència

La UB Divulga is once more in Espai Ciència in Saló de lʼEnsenyament with their own stand. Visitors will find out about the tasks of research and innovation some UB groups carry out in several branches of knowledge such as physics, biology, psychology, geology, law, physiology or geography and history. This week, from Wednesday 14 to Sunday, several researchers will show the visitors their research studies through workshops and interactive activities such as scientific experiments.

In Espai Ciència, visitors will also see the exhibition “Los números y la humanidad”, commissioned by Professor Javier Tejada, director of the Interdisciplinary Reflection Group and Math Solutions for Entities of the UB (GISME-UB). The exhibition shows the importance of the role of numbers in all disciplines of human knowledge, and it links them with the content of the sustainable development goals (ODS) of the United Nations.

Saló de lʼocupació juvenil

This year, within the framework of the Education and Work Week, from March 14 to 16, Saló de lʼocupació juvenil is also taking place. The University of Barcelona will be present in it during the three days, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., in a stand of the Interuniversity Council of Catalonia, which will gather all Catalan universities (Montjuic centre - Palace 2). The fair has seven spaces which are differentiated to know about the existing public resources and services, receive advice on employment rights and obligations, getting closer to the labour market, finding new vacancies and jobs, and reaching entities of the third sector or the entrepreneurship world.
