The FBG has given 100,000 euros to four UB projects in the framework of the Valorization Fundaids of the Fund for the Promotion of Innovation (F2i). Its aim is to valorize projects of the University of Barcelona which have a high potential on transfer and impact on our society. FVal aids will enable researchers to make progresses on the elaboration of the selected technologies with the aim of getting them closer to the marketʼs requirements and to favour its transfer through a license for an existing company or the creation of a spin-off.

The FBG has given 100,000 euros to four UB projects in the framework of the Valorization Fundaids of the Fund for the Promotion of Innovation (F2i). Its aim is to valorize projects of the University of Barcelona which have a high potential on transfer and impact on our society. FVal aids will enable researchers to make progresses on the elaboration of the selected technologies with the aim of getting them closer to the marketʼs requirements and to favour its transfer through a license for an existing company or the creation of a spin-off.

The awarded projects in this first edition are: “Inhibitors of androgen receptor dimerization: first-in-class drugs for the prostate cancer treatment”, by Eva Estébanez Perpiñá (Faculty of Biology); “New generation of SMDs for printed electronic circuits”, by Albert Cirera Hernández (Faculty of Physics); “Automated food recognition system for catering facilities”, by Petia Radeva (Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science), and “Therapeutic and prophylactic effects of soluble epoxide hydrolase inhibitors (sEHI) in acute pancreatitis (AP) and in edoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)-induced AP”, by Santiago Vázquez Cruz (Faculty of Pharmacy and Food Sciences). Each project has received 25,000 euros.

FVal aids are aimed at researchers of the University of Barcelona who lead knowledge transfer projects, in which the UB holds its ownership or co-ownership and previous technology as well as the results for which it applies for the grant.
 
This yearʼs call received a total of fourteen research projects carried out in the University of Barcelona: five from the Faculty of Physics, three from the Faculty of Pharmacy and Food Sciences, three from the Faculty of Biology, one from the Faculty of Chemistry, one from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and one from the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science.
 
This is the second edition of the Fund for the Promotion of Innovation (F2i), a grant call awarding 124,000 euros with two categories: the Valorisation Fund aid (FVal), with 100,000 to valorise UB projects with a high potential of transfer and impact for our society, and the Mentor in Residence grant (MIR), with 24,000 euros to promote the creation of new spin-offs of the University by hiring a mentor. These grants have the support of the Secretary of Universities and Research of the Department of Business and Knowledge of Generalitat de Catalunya, and are co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
