The UB in Greenland

These research activities intend to reconstruct the evolution of glaciers during the last millenniums and the climate variability which causes these oscillations.

Members and collaborators of the UB research group Antarctic, Arctic and Alpine Environments (ANTALP) will go on a research campaign this July in the north-eastern area of Greenland, as part of the research project “Glacial oscillations and climate variability in NE Greenland” - PALEOGREEN (Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness). The campaign, led by the researcher Marc Oliva, from the Department of Geography of the UB, will take place from July 16 to August 8 in the Zackenberg (74ºN) research station, in the biggest National Park of the planet.

These research activities intend to reconstruct the evolution of glaciers during the last millenniums and the climate variability which causes these oscillations. After a previous Antarctic campaign during February and March, the new research aims to strengthen research in polar areas and the role of the University of Barcelona as an international model regarding leading research in these areas, which are sensitive to climate changes and important for the environment of the planet.
