The University of Barcelona scales up to the 61st position worldwide and is the leading institution in Spain. This is the main conclusion of the new edition of the National Taiwan University Ranking (NTU), one of the most distinguished international rankings when assessing scientific performance in the universities. Over the last years, the evolution of the UB in this ranking has been very positive, gathering improvements in each edition. Regarding last year’s, the University of Barcelona has gained three positions.

The University of Barcelona scales up to the 61st position worldwide and is the leading institution in Spain. This is the main conclusion of the new edition of the National Taiwan University Ranking (NTU), one of the most distinguished international rankings when assessing scientific performance in the universities. Over the last years, the evolution of the UB in this ranking has been very positive, gathering improvements in each edition. Regarding last year’s, the University of Barcelona has gained three positions.

It is also noteworthy the position of the institution at a European scale, where it scales up to the 15th position for the first time.

Among the TOP 50 in Clinical Medicine

The University of Barcelona is one of the top 100 institutions worldwide in the knowledge areas of Clinical Medicine (36), Life Sciences (67) and Agriculture (80), and is listed among the top 200 universities in Natural Sciences (120) and Social Sciences (156). Regarding disciplines, it outstands in Pharmacology and Toxicology (32), Agricultural Sciences (64), Ecology and Environment (83), Plant and Animal Sciences (88), Civil Engineering (97) abd Chemistry (98).

The new NTU Ranking edition is led by the universities of Harvard, Stanford and Johns Hopkins (USA), the University of Toronto (Canada) and the University of Oxford (United Kingdom). Regarding Spain, the University of Barcelona is followed by Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (180) and the University of Valencia (215).

The National Taiwan University Ranking, also known as Performance Ranking of Scientific Papers, is a continuation of the ranking conducted by the Higher Education Evaluation and Accreditation Council of Taiwan (HEEACT) and is one of the first international rankings that opted for calculating positions out of a set of indicators obtained only from the indexed scientific performance.
